May 11: Waiting for Superman and Mom Congress

Waiting for Superman, the 2010 documentary about how to fix America’s public schools, is hosting an education town hall on May 11th, and you have the chance to participate!

Moderated by CNN Correspondent Jessica Yellin, A Pathway to Excellence: the Future of Education in America will host a panel featuring Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Governor Chris Christie from New Jersey, U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, U.S. Representative George Miller, and Geoffrey Canada, President and CEO of Harlem Children’s Zone (and Waiting for Superman fame). Not only will the panel be taking questions from those present, but they will also be answering questions from the livestream on Facebook and via Twitter (links below). I watched the livestream with Michelle Rhee last week, and these are great events as well as an innovative use of technology to allow people from all over the country to participate.

Mom Congress will have a delegate-hosted satellite location in Tennessee, but anyone can submit questions to this distinguished and influential panel. If you have not already joined Mom Congress or checked out the resource center, now is a great time!

To watch the livestream feed on Wednesday at 9:30am ET, visit livestream.com/waitingforsuperman.  The stream will also be live on the Waiting for Superman Facebook page at www.facebook.com/waitingforsuperman, where viewers can post questions to be answered during the Town Hall.  On Twitter, go to www.twitter.com/waitingforsuperman hashtag #edtownhall to post your question – the moderators will also be taking questions from Twitter throughout the event.
